Taal Volcano emits 2.4 kilometer steam plume

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), on Thursday noon Taal Volcano sent a 2.4 kilometer-tall plume of steam in the sky.

Taal Volcano stays under Alert Level 1, located at 50 kilometers south of Manila, wherein gas-driven explosions, minor ashfall, and volcanic earthquakes are possible. Access to Taal Volcano Island is prohibited.

“Locally called ‘pusngat,’ the event produced a 2400-meter-high eruption plume that drifted northwest,” Philvolcs said.

During the month of August, a large number of people were advised to stay indoors and schools were closed because of the fog from Taal.
