Mattel has introduced a new Filipina-inspired Barbie to their Styled by Design Series, precisely in the midst of Filipino American History Month.
The toy firm shared an in-depth look at the doll on Instagram, which is where she adorns a corset with big native terno sleeves, a malong-inspired skirt, and bakya with bahay kubo-sculpted sandals.
Barbie’s Filipina look was designed by a Filipino-American designer Carlyle Nuera, who is also a Lead Designer at the company.
Based to the Mattel Creations website, Nuera wanted to take “traditional Filipino fashion into the realm of haute couture, paying homage to his Asian American heritage with this spectacular Barbie doll.”
