LTO requires vehicle owners to be present during vehicle registration

As a means to prevent duplicate entries in the system, Senator Raffy Tulfo urged the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday to mandate the vehicle owners register their vehicles in person.

Law enforcers are having a hard time identifying the vehicles whether it is registered under the name of a fixer or from another individual, Tulfo shared in a Senate hearing.

“Obligahin niyo ang bawat tao na kapag nagparehistro ng sasakyan pumunta sila doon,” the senator stated.

“From now on lahat ng tao na magre-renew ng kaniyang registration sa plaka, he or she has to be there in person,” he mentioned.

“Only then maso-solve natin itong problemang ito kasi yung open deed of sale, naaabuso ito especially sa mga second hand car dealer,” he added.

Given the present system, an individual may handle another registration process for another person’s vehicle by presenting all of the necessary documentation on behalf of the vehicle’s owner.

The LTO would look into Tulfo’s demand, as well as develop instructions for motorists who would utilize the barrier-free toll system on expressways.

“Mapipicturan po natin yung plaka… We need to bring out the plates of all the motor vehicles,” LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said.
