Featured films in Cinemalaya 2024 and their screening times

For its 20th edition, the Cinemalaya 2024 Film Festival is set to premier on August 2 to 11 which screens films that enfolds different aspects of Filipino lives and social issues.

The main venue for this year will be in Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque, moving from the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) due to the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) still being under renovation.

Similar to the recent Cinemalaya editions, Ayala Malls Cinemas will be screening the partaking films in selected malls all across Metro Manila.

The main competition is made up of 10 feature films. Their gala nights were held throughout the days leading up to the closing ceremony on August 11:

 

“Alipato at Muog”

Directed by JL Burgos

Starring Marian Rivera, Sassa Gurl, Esnyr Ranollo, Royce Cabrera, and Donna Cariaga

“An Errand”

Directed by Dominic Bekaert

Starring Sid Lucero, Art Acuña, and Nading Josef

Gala night: August 3, Cinema 2, 8:30 pm

 

“The Hearing”

Directed by Lawrence Fajardo

Starring Mylene Dizon, Ruby Ruiz, and Ina Feleo

Gala night: August 7, Cinema 2, 8:30 pm

 

“Kantil”

Directed by Joshua Caesar Medroso

Starring Edmund Telmo, Andre Miguel, Sue Prado, Raul Arellano, Ram Botero, and Perry Dizon

Gala night: August 7, Cinema 2, 5:00 pm

 

“Kono Basho”

Directed by Jaime Pecana II

Starring Gabby Padilla and Arisa Nakano

Gala night: August 6, Cinema 2, 8:30 pm

 

“Love Child”

Directed by Jonathan Jurilla

Starring RK Bagatsing and Jane Oineza

“Tumandok”

“The Wedding Dance”

Directed by Julius Lumiqued

Starring Arvin Balageo and Christal Dagupen

Gala night: August 3, Cinema 2, 5:00 pm

 

The festival’s opening is Sheron Dayoc’s “The Gospel of the Beast,” which was nominated for Best Picture in two different international film festivals, and even secured a win in Bali.

A restored version of Lino Brocka’s “Bona” will be the closing film, which was recently showcased at the Cannes Film Festival.
