Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa recommended on the local government unit (LGUs) the creation of an ordinance banning children from playing in floodwater.
This is in response to the ongoing rise in leptospirosis cases following the recent flooding, with the recommendation being particularly urgent for flood-prone areas.
The health chief also said he wants the LGUs to implement the ordinance strictly.
Herbosa believed that the continued rise of leptospirosis was caused by “behavioral problems”. So he wants to suggest to the Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara to remind students to avoid playing in floodwater.
“At kung lulusong kayo, mag-bota kayo. You can protect yourself. Kapag na-expose kayo, soap and water will kill the lepto virus,” said Herbosa.
