Education Secretary Sonny Angara convened with the Department of Education-National Employees Union (DepEd-NEU), National Executive Officers, and National Board of Trustees at the DepEd Central Office to address the concerns of non-teaching personnel.
The meeting was attended by key officials such as Atty. Domingo B. Alidon, Annalyn M. Sevilla, Wilfredo E. Cabral, and Atty. Revsee Escobedo focused on resolving issues raised by the NEU for the benefit of the Department’s staff.
A significant topic of discussion was the proposal by DepEd NEU to review DepEd Order No. 002, s. 2024, which calls for the immediate removal of administrative tasks from public school teachers. Secretary Angara expressed the commitment to thoroughly study all suggestions to create a career path progression across various professions.
DepEd -NEU put forward suggestions including allocating the 2023 Collective Negotiation Agreement Incentive (CNAI) of P3,000 and a retirement benefit of P20,000 for DepEd Non-Teaching Employees to all governance levels. They also recommended ensuring representation for non-teaching personnel and implementing the CNA in Local School Boards.
Usec. Escobedo emphasized the importance of including non-teaching personnel in the Local School Boards, highlighting DepEd-NEU’s role as the sole non-academic union of DepEd. Additionally, DepEd-NEU proposed the establishment of the DepEd Union Management Coordinating Council (UMCC) to enhance the implementation of welfare benefits outlined in the CNA.
