Dengue cases raised to 33% according to DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) stated on Wednesday August 6 that the number of dengue cases from January to August have increased to 33 percent nationwide to more than 128,800.

From January to July 27, the DOH recorded 128,834 dengue cases, surpassing the 97,211 cases reported in the same period last year.

Despite the increasing  number, dengue related deaths slightly decreased to 337 from 378 in 2023.

The public’s initiative to seek early consultation and hospital case management was the reason behind the lower death count in the first seven months of the year.

DOH always remind the public to do comply with the “4S Strategy” against dengue:
“Search and Destroy” mosquito breeding places, “Secure Self Protection” from mosquito bite, “Seek Early Consultation” when signs and symptoms of dengue occur, and “Say Yes to Fogging.”

According to DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, stagnant water means more mosquitos and more dengue. So let’s continue to search for and eliminate containers where mosquitoes can breed. And seek consultation early and treat patients properly for fewer deaths.

Additionally, use clothes that cover the skin , mosquito nets, and insect repellant that will help to slow down the rise of cases support fogging or spraying in areas identified as local hotspots or outbreak zones
