World-class singer Celine Dion made a stunning comeback last Saturday at the Paris Olympics 2024 opening ceremony, singing the Hymne à l’amour while wearing a long, gleaming silver dress.
According to the Instagram account of Vogue France, the dress was created by an Italian fashion designer Maria Grazi Chiuri.
“@CelineDion’s haute couture dress took over 1,000 hours to create in the @Dior ateliers,” Vogue France wrote.
The dress was made of thousands of small silver beads stitched along 500 meters of intricately designed sequins that flowed to the beat of her performance.
“It was such a pleasure to take part to this special moment and to create this all over embroidered cape dress for this stunning performance. Thank you to @celinedion for choosing @dior and to the incredible team!!,” Chiuri expressed.
After being offstage for four years due to a neurological condition affecting her voice, Celine returned to the stage to perform Hymne à l’amour, a tribute to Edith Piaf.
In the documentary “I Am: Celine Dion” released earlier this year, Celine discussed her medical condition in detail. She stated in the movie that “a performance is way bigger than a song,” and she proved what she said with her Olympic performance in Paris.
“I’m honored to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities! Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance,” she wrote on Instagram.
“All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you! You should all be so proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the best of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart is with you!,” she added.
