Former President Rodrigo Duterte made no explanations or justifications for his acts on Monday, while he confronted the first Senate hearing into his widely condemned brutal drug campaign.
“Don’t question my policies because I offer no apologies, no excuses. I did what I had to do, and whether you believe it or not, I did it for my country,” he emphasized.
“I hate drugs, make no mistake about it,’’ he added.
The former leader continued on to justify his administration’s anti-drug initiative that led to the murders of countless drug charges.
“The war on illegal drugs is not about killing people. It’s about protecting the innocent and the defenseless,” the former President said.
His statements, nevertheless, went against the intentions of the relatives of deceased suspected drug users and other victims of his administration’s vicious fight against illegal drugs.
