Eraserheads receives UP Gawad Oblation Award

The University of the Philippines was given the OPM rock band Eraserheads the Gawad Oblation Award for their extraordinary service with or in the name UP

The UP Gawad Oblation Medal is one of the university’s highest honours. Ely Buendia, Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro, and Raimund Marasigan are the band members that received the award and all of them are UP alumni.

UP President Angelo Jimenez stated that the Eraserheads are a Eraserheads pivotal force when it comes to the history of Original Pilipino Music, even after a decade in the industry they still remain a cultural icon for ages.

“The Eraserheads gave voice to the real and lived experiences, struggles, social realities and concerns of generations of Filipino youth” added on the awarding ceremony and reception at the UP Executive House in Quezon City.

The band was formed in 1989 and the members of the band were still studying at UP Diliman. “Pare ko,” “Toyang,“ “With a Smile, “ and “Alapaap,” are the band’s hits and it has become a Filipino Pop Culture up to this day.
