TasteAtlas released their list of ‘Top 100 Soups in the World’ featuring soup dishes of different tastes and cultures.
Sinigang in general was ranked 17 with a 4.5 star rating, but one variant of it, Sinigang na Baboy, placed No. 38 with a 4.4 star rating. Another soup dish is Bulalo that earned 4.4 star ratings ranking No. 36.

Sinigang was described by TasteAtlas as a sour Filipino soup made up of sampalok, water spinach, hot peppers, cabbage, broccoli, eggplant, diced tomatoes, sliced onions, ginger, garlic, green beans, fish sauce, and salt in a basic broth with rice wash and a sour seasonings.
The database also noted that different types of meat, fish, and poultry make up different variations of Sinigang.
“With its sour lightness perfectly matching the harsh tropical heat of the country, Sinigang is a unique soup that is a true representative of Filipino cuisine,” said TasteAtlas.
The specific variation of Sinigang na Baboy or Pork Sinigang was given its own write up, listing its commonly used ingredients such as tomatoes, onions, garlic, okra, white radish, water spinach, and green long peppers.
Though Sinigang mix may be bought at supermarkets, TasteAtlas mentioned that Filipinos still delight in making the dish from scratch and with no specific measurements, specifically with how Filipinos like to adjust the level of sourness depending on their liking. It also noted that Malaysia has a similar dish called Siniggang.
Bulalo was noted as a traditional Filipino soup that is a specialty in Luzon, which consists of beef shanks and marrow bones as its main ingredient until the fat and collagen dissolve into the broth.

“It is believed that this simple, comforting, and flavorful soup is the best when the meat is so tender that it falls off the bone,” Said TasteAtlas.
Paraguay’s Vori-vori, Indonesia’s Rawon and Sowon Betawi, Ramen and Yokohama-Style Ramen from Japan make up the Top 5 of the list.
As of August 10, the updated list is based on ratings and food rankings from TasteAtlas. The list recorded 22,645 legitimate ratings out of 38,952 in total, ignoring bots, nationalist or local patriotic ratings as said by TasteAtlas.
